The U.S. government has lifted its block on Anthropic’s Claude Mythos 5 AI model, enabling the company to release the technology to more than 100 domestic institutions, including major corporations and government agencies. The decision marks a significant de-escalation following a two-week period of strict export controls.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that the release was approved after the government and Anthropic established rigorous safeguards and protocols to prevent the model from being exploited for malicious purposes. While access to Mythos 5 has been restored for trusted partners, negotiations regarding the release of its consumer-facing counterpart, Fable 5, are still ongoing.
