OpenAI has announced plans to invest more than $30 billion in a massive new data center complex located near Savannah, Georgia. Situated in Effingham County, the facility is intended to support the company’s increasing computational needs and the surging demand for artificial intelligence software.
OpenAI has already secured a contract with Georgia Power Co. for 3.2 gigawatts of energy, a capacity sufficient to power hundreds of thousands of homes, potentially making this one of the largest data centers in the company's portfolio. The project is scheduled to roll out in stages, with the first several hundred megawatts of capacity expected to come online in 2028.
