Anthropic taps SpaceX compute while Musk battles OpenAI

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has entered into a strategic agreement to provide the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic with massive computing power through its Colossus 1 data center. Under the deal, Anthropic will gain access to over 300 megawatts of capacity, equivalent to more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs, to address a severe compute deficit.
Anthropic recently reported an 80-fold increase in revenue and usage during the first quarter of 2026, which led to service limitations for its customers and an urgent need for additional infrastructure. For SpaceX, the partnership converts underutilized hardware into a significant revenue stream ahead of a planned initial public offering in June.
