Apple has filed a major lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging the systematic theft of trade secrets to fuel the AI startup's hardware development. The complaint specifically names Tang Tan, OpenAI’s Chief Hardware Officer and a former Apple vice president, as well as former employee Chang Liu.
According to the filing, Tan allegedly directed job candidates still employed by Apple to bring physical components and confidential information to interviews to assist OpenAI in replicating Apple’s proprietary technologies and manufacturing processes. The legal action highlights escalating tensions between the two companies, who currently maintain a partnership to integrate ChatGPT into Apple’s ecosystem.
