Amazon Web Services has announced it will stop accepting new customers for its Mechanical Turk crowdsourcing platform starting July 30, 2026. The service, which allows businesses to hire remote workers for small manual tasks, has been moved to a maintenance status, signaling its eventual retirement.
While current users are not yet affected by this change, Amazon confirmed that the platform will eventually stop processing all types of work, including data labeling tasks previously integrated with its SageMaker AI tools. Launched in 2005, Mechanical Turk was a precursor to modern gig economy platforms and became widely used for human-in-the-loop AI training.
