OpenAI has officially released GPT-5.6, a new family of AI models consisting of three distinct versions: Sol, Luna, and Terra. Sol serves as the most powerful iteration, featuring an "ultra" mode for complex task delegation, while Luna is optimized for speed and Terra balances performance for daily workflows.
According to CEO Sam Altman, the Sol model is significantly more token-efficient for agentic coding tasks compared to competitors, addressing growing enterprise concerns regarding AI expenditure and value. Alongside the new models, the company launched ChatGPT Work, an AI agent designed to function across desktop and mobile platforms.
