The European Union has officially cleared the $55 billion acquisition of Electronic Arts by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and the private equity firm Silver Lake. After a thorough review, the European Commission determined that the merger would not significantly diminish competition within the gaming market.
The regulator noted that the industry remains highly fragmented, with enough rival publishers and platforms to maintain a competitive landscape for consumers and developers alike. This transaction marks one of the largest deals in the history of the interactive entertainment industry, bringing major franchises like EA Sports FC, Battlefield, and Apex Legends under new ownership.
