Cloudflare has partnered with major browser developers, including Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla, to launch a new privacy-preserving protocol called Private Access Control Tokens (PACTs). This initiative aims to help websites distinguish between legitimate web traffic—whether from humans or authorized automated agents—and malicious bots.
By utilizing anonymous digital tokens to verify a visitor's "personhood," the system is designed to reduce the need for intrusive security measures such as CAPTCHAs and frequent identity checks. The development of PACTs comes as a response to the increasing prevalence of AI-powered traffic, which often renders traditional bot-detection tools obsolete or overly restrictive.
