Princeton University has officially modified its long-standing Honor Code, a policy that has governed student examinations since 1893. The decision comes in response to the growing challenge of artificial intelligence tools, which have raised significant concerns regarding the feasibility of unproctored assessments.
Under the traditional system, students took exams without faculty supervision, relying instead on a signed pledge of honesty and a community-based reporting system. The university’s faculty recently voted to allow for more direct oversight during testing sessions to mitigate the risk of AI-assisted cheating.
