Meta is currently notifying Instagram users who may have been targeted by a widespread hacking campaign that exploited the company’s AI-powered support chatbot. The vulnerability allowed attackers to gain control of accounts by simply convincing the chatbot to link a target’s account to a new email address, bypassing traditional security measures and human oversight.
High-profile accounts and sought-after "OG" usernames were among the primary targets of the exploit, which Meta initially claimed to have resolved earlier this week. Despite Meta’s assertions that the issue has been fixed, reports of successful account takeovers have persisted, and hackers in online forums claim the technique remains operational.
