Prominent Washington D.C. lobbying firms are severing ties with major Chinese technology companies, including Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. and Tencent Holdings Ltd., in response to new federal restrictions. This shift follows the implementation of a defense law that prohibits the U.S.
Department of Defense from hiring any firms that also represent entities blacklisted by the Pentagon for alleged ties to the Chinese military. The new regulations have forced many of the capital's most influential lobbying groups to choose between maintaining lucrative contracts with Chinese corporate clients or preserving their eligibility to work with U.S. defense contractors.
