Prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket have come under scrutiny after several paid influencers used the platforms’ data to promote election conspiracy theories on social media. Influencers with large followings on X posted content suggesting that the Los Angeles mayoral primary was being "stolen" or "rigged," often labeling these posts as paid partnerships with the betting firms.
The viral claims primarily targeted the underperformance of candidate Spencer Pratt, questioning the integrity of late-arriving mail-in ballots. In response to the controversy, Kalshi requested that its affiliates remove the offending posts, stating that the content violated the company's marketing policies.
