Nvidia has reportedly delayed the release of its next-generation Kyber NVL144 rack-scale architecture from 2027 to 2028. According to research firm SemiAnalysis, the setback is driven by manufacturing difficulties involving a specialized multi-layer printed circuit board, or midplane, which is critical for connecting the system’s electronic modules.
The Kyber system is designed to house 144 of Nvidia’s upcoming Rubin Ultra chips in a high-density configuration intended to power the training and operation of advanced artificial intelligence models. In addition to the Kyber delay, Nvidia has scrapped plans for its NVL72x2 system, a backup design that would have linked two current-generation racks together.
