Internal records and interviews from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) reveal a significant shift in oversight regarding prediction markets and cryptocurrency firms with ties to the Trump family. Career officials at the agency had initially raised concerns about consumer fairness and fraud protections at companies including Crypto.com, Polymarket, and an offshoot of Gemini.
However, reports indicate that leadership intervened to bypass these internal warnings, fast-tracking applications and approving requests for firms despite the objections of senior staff. By late 2025, five senior officials who had enforced laws involving cryptocurrencies or questioned the practices of these specific firms were placed on administrative leave and barred from the agency.
