YouTube has officially surpassed Netflix in average daily viewing time globally, marking a significant shift in the digital media landscape. According to data from the Digital i agency, average daily usage per YouTube account rose to 99.1 minutes in 2025, while Netflix viewing dropped to 93.4 minutes.
This trend is largely driven by a transition in how audiences consume content, with YouTube viewing increasingly moving from mobile devices to television sets. To solidify its position as a primary entertainment destination, YouTube has expanded into traditional broadcasting territory by securing exclusive streaming rights for major events like the Oscars and venturing into live sports.
